A Study on the Development Path of the Zhanjiang International Diving Festival from the Perspective of the Integration of Sports, Cultural Tourism, and Ecology

Zhanjiang boasts a unique "Five Islands and One Bay" landscape and the nation’s largest mangrove reserve, making it rich in resources for diving competitions and eco-cultural tourism. The successful hosting of the 2025 International Diving Competition provided Zhanjiang with valuable practical experience in exploring the integrated development of "sports + cultural tourism + ecology." However, how to convert the event’s visitor traffic into long-term development momentum and how to achieve a dynamic balance between ecological conservation and resource development remain core challenges that urgently need to be addressed. This paper adopts a perspective that integrates sports, cultural tourism, and ecology to clarify the development goals of the Zhanjiang International Diving Festival in two areas: safeguarding the ecological foundation and building the event’s brand identity. systematically elaborates on five development pathways—brand cultivation, joint development of ecological resources, integration of cultural and tourism experiences, omnichannel communication, and industrial expansion—and distills three key lessons: balanced ecological development, sustainable conversion of event traffic, and multi-stakeholder collaborative governance. These insights offer a reference for the integrated development of sports events, cultural tourism, and ecology in coastal cities.
