Patient Capital and Long-Term Investment in a Changing Global Economy

Overview

Patient capital has been widely discussed in the contexts of innovation financing, venture capital, development finance, and sustainable investment. It plays an important role in supporting industries and projects that require longer time horizons to generate returns, such as technological innovation, infrastructure development, and climate transition initiatives.

At the same time, the global economic landscape is undergoing profound transformation. Digitalization, geopolitical shifts, and climate imperatives are reshaping how long-term investments are structured and governed. These developments raise important questions about the institutional, financial, and policy frameworks required to enable patient capital in contemporary economies.

This special issue of GHSS aims to bring together interdisciplinary perspectives from economics, finance, development studies, public policy, and related social science fields to explore the evolving role of patient capital and long-term investment in a changing global economy.
